Buffalo Sunset

A section of Brewster F2A Buffaloes from VF-2 "Flying Chiefs" formates above the late evening clouds. Comprised mainly of enlisted aircrew, VF-2 would provide a vital corps of seasoned naval aviators during the early days of World War II. Promoted to officers, the former enlisted men were widely distributed amongst the other squadrons in the fleet to share their vitally needed experience.

The first monoplane fighter operated by the U.S. Navy, the Brewster Buffalo was quickly surpassed by more modern fighter aircraft. Though much maligned after early war experiences by the US Navy, Marines, and the Royal Air Force, the Buffalo nevertheless found success in operations by the Finish Air Force against Russian aggressors during the Continuation War.

Edit: Some additional historical research reveals that only the section leader had a fuselage stripe. Though I much prefer the striped look for all three airplanes, personal preference must give way to facts! I took this opportunity to improve the clouds a bit, add additional details, and move the pilots forward a bit so they are more visible. -A
