Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry flew 89 combat missions with the 394th BS, 5th BG, 13th AF in the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO).
Before he became commander of his own crew, he flew many missions as copilot of a B-17E with the tail number of 41-2644. The aircraft was later named ‘Los Lobos’ and acquired some nose art, but photos and other accounts suggest that either the aircraft carried no specific name or nose art when Gene flew it, or that information has been lost to history.
Thank you Gene, the "Great Bird of the Galaxy" for all the inspiration, joy and hope, and happy (late) birthday from all of us at Hangar B Productions.
